Paws for Purple Hearts

Paws for Purple Hearts is the world’s only service dog organization for wounded Service Members and Veterans that partners with Bergin College of Canine Studies. Through its unique mission to advance human-canine studies, it produces the some of the best service dog trainers and highest quality assistance dogs.

Area of Impact

Paws for Purple Hearts WA has grown since contact with the William E. Wockner Foundation! Since receiving funds, the Washington site has moved to a larger facility to better host clients, grown in staff, and received another Service Dog in Training to work with.

William E. Wockner Foundation's Impact

Since March, the Paws for Purple Hearts site has served hundreds of Veterans and Active Duty Service Members in the form of Social Therapy, and their innovative Canine Assisted Warrior Therapy (CAWT). CAWTS allows Paws for Purple Hearts to have the most meaningful outreach to their Veterans, as they help train dogs while getting the added benefit of knowing that their time with Paws for Purple Hearts will go on to serve a brother or sister in arms once their Service Dogs in Training are placed.

Thanks to the William E. Wockner Foundations support, the Paws for Purple Hearts site was able to source necessary improvements for their Service Dog Training, including (but not limited to!) furniture for their dogs to practice opening drawers/grabbing items off of, various accessibility aids (such as canes, wheelchairs, and crutches), a dog bath so that their Service Dogs in Training may be groomed in house, and much more!
