Improving The Well-Being of Service Members, Veterans, and Their Families
The mission of Semper Fi & America’s Fund is to care for our nation’s critically wounded, ill, and injured service members, veterans, and military families. Supporting all branches of the U.S. Armed Forces, Semper Fi provides one-on-one case management, connection, and lifetime support. Today. Tomorrow. Together.
The goal of Semper Fi’s programming and support is to ensure that service members, veterans, and military families achieve and maintain an overall improved state of well-being, while reaching their highest possible quality of life and level of independence.
One of the ways that they accomplish this goal of improving veteran quality of life is by offering alternative and holistic therapies and devices, such as the NightWare device, that support physical, emotional, and mental health.
A 2018 study in Nature of Science of Sleep affirms that sleep deprivation is widely regarded as a stressor and has been shown to have significant negative effects on healing the body and mind. Data shows that restful sleep can improve mood, boost memory, and aid in the healing process. In fact, studies show that sleep is more important than good nutrition in speeding wound healing. Many of our service members and veterans suffer from sleep deprivation.
The NightWare device uses a digital therapeutic system which works with the Apple watch to counter sleep deprivation by providing relief from debilitating sleep disturbance, improving sleep quality for service members experiencing nightmares associated with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and trauma, and positively impacting quality of life.
The Wockner Foundation’s donation support provided NightWare devices for two veterans and offset the cost of a NightWare device for a third veteran, aiding in the healing process, improving their quality of life, and exceeding Semper Fi’s objective of improving sleep quality for veterans.
Funding from the William E. Wockner Foundation positively impacted the lives of one Air Force Staff Sergeant, one Army Corporal, and one Army Specialist, improving sleep quality and providing relief from the debilitating effects of sleep disturbance.
